EQ — Shape Your Sound
Low (300 Hz): Controls the warmth and body. Cut here to reduce boominess from a close mic or a room with echo.
Mid (1 kHz): The presence range. A small boost makes vocals clearer and easier to understand. Too much sounds nasal.
High (3 kHz): Adds air and brightness. A gentle boost helps dull recordings sparkle. Too much creates harshness.
Try this: Start flat, then make small moves (±2-3 dB). If it sounds worse, undo it.
Compressor — Control Your Levels
A compressor evens out volume differences. Loud parts get pulled down, quiet parts stay. This makes your podcast sound polished and professional.
Threshold: The level where compression kicks in. Set it so your normal speaking voice just crosses the line — watch the meter to aim for around -18 to -12 dB.
Makeup Gain: After the compressor pulls loud peaks down, the overall volume drops. Makeup gain brings it back up. Start with +3 to +6 dB.
Try this: Enable the compressor, talk into the mic, and watch the vocal meter. Adjust threshold until the meter sits steadily around -12 dB.
